With breezes comes Slight Heat, one of the 24 solar terms, which marks the beginning of hot summer. As cicadas start singing, we have spent half of 2023. Slight Heat, or Minor Heat, is the fifth solar term of summer. It marks the beginning of midsummer.
微風至，小暑來，盛夏始。在夏日的陣陣蟬鳴中，2023年已經悄然過半。小暑即為小熱，這是夏天的第五個節氣，進入小暑，標志著盛夏火熱登場。
Many Chinese poems have described the beauty of Slight Heat. Qiao Yuanbing of the Qing Dynasty wrote in Summer,
在中國古詩詞里，可遇見小暑節氣之美。清代喬遠炳在《夏日》詩中寫道：
A breeze cools the summer and relieves worries. The Slight Heat means daytime is getting longer. Cicadas are singing on trees in a distance. Swallows are whispering on the beam.
薰風慍解引新涼，
小暑神清夏日長。
斷續蟬聲傳遠樹，
呢喃燕語倚雕梁。
After Slight Heat, the weather gets hotter and hotter. Although it is hot, summer nights are the most beautiful. On summer nights, you can invite your friends out for a night tour or shopping, perhaps at the night market, where you can enjoy barbecue and cold drinks.
